How to Make Quick and Easy Poha Recipe for Breakfast

Poha is easy, light, delicious and most popular Maharashtrian breakfast recipe. Every region has their own version some eat it alone but in some regions it is served with spicy curry. It mainly include flattened rice, onion and potato. Poha is quick, easy and healthy dish to make in breakfast. You can also enjoy it with morning tea.

Ingredients for Poha Recipe:-

Cooking Oil - 1½ tbsp
Thick Poha - 2 cups
Chopped Onion - ½ cup
Lemon Juice - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - ¼ tsp
Potatoes (boiled and diced ) - ½ cup
Coriander Leaves (chopped) - 2 tbsp
Salt - as per taste
Green Chillies (chopped) - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta) - 7-8
Mustard Seeds (Sarso) - 2 tsp
Peanuts - 2 tbsp
Sugar - 1 tbsp

Preparation for Poha Recipe:-

1. Rinse the poha with water thoroughly for 30 sec and leave it for 2 minutes till it softens. You can check poha softness by pressing it with your finger.
2. Now add sugar, salt and turmeric powder and mix it with spoon to avoid any lumps.
3. Roast peanuts in a pan till they become crunchy.

How to make Poha Recipe:-

1. Heat oil in a pan and crackle mustard seeds and then add curry leaves and onion and mix them well.
2. Let onion cook till they become translucent.
3. Next add green chilies, potatoes and little salt and keep stiring on low flame.
4. Now add roasted peanuts, soaked Poha, lemon juice, and few corriander leaves. Mix it well, make sure there are no lumps in poha.
5. Cover and steam the poha for 2 minutes on low flame so that poha absorbs all ingredients.
6. Turn OFF the flame and let the poha remain covered for another 1 minute.
7. Remove the lid and Poha is ready!! Serve hot with tea.

Tips:-
1.  If the poha is too dry, you can sprinkle some water while cooking.
2. If you would like to make it more healthier, you can also add more vegetables like green peas or finely chopped carrot. It also gives a different taste to the dish.
3. Stay close to the stove while cooking poha recipe as it cooks very quickly.
